Tom Schaefer is a seasoned executive and recruitment strategist with over two decades of leadership experience in the technology sector. As the CEO and Principal Consultant of SMG9 LLC since 2010, he has driven strategic recruiting and consulting initiatives that have resulted in hiring over 1,000 professionals across engineering, sales, marketing, and operations for companies at the forefront of innovation.
In addition to his role at SMG9, Tom has significantly shaped talent acquisition at high-growth tech firms. As Head of Recruitment at Velo3D since 2016, he has been instrumental in building teams behind cutting-edge metal 3D printing solutions used by industry leaders like SpaceX and key defense agencies. His tenure at Fulfil further highlights his ability to double workforce size, enhance diversity, and implement advanced recruiting systems.
Tom’s strong technical background—bolstered by an MBA from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Illinois University—complements his proven track record in operational leadership, making him a transformative force in technology recruitment and business growth.
Simon Hobson is an experienced recruitment leader specializing in the Built Environment. With roles that span the UK and the US, he currently leads recruitment efforts in the US for In Technology Group – Built Environment. Simon has a strong track record in sourcing top talent across civil, environmental, geotechnical, and structural engineering disciplines. Previously, Simon served as Managing Consultant and Head of Civil Engineering at Harper Harrison, where he played a critical role in recruiting for large-scale infrastructure projects. His expertise extends to property, construction, and fit-out recruitment, having worked with numerous well-regarded construction companies globally. Simon holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Gloucestershire.
Kristen Buie is a seasoned HR and recruiting leader with over 20 years of experience building and enhancing talent functions within growing organizations. Passionate about DEI&B initiatives, she excels in full-cycle recruiting, strategic sourcing, and talent management, ensuring both professional and personal growth within her teams. Currently, as Talent Acquisition Manager at TranSystems in Kansas City, Kristen leverages her extensive expertise from previous roles at H&R Block, Dairy Farmers of America, and GE to drive innovative recruitment strategies and organizational success. She holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Baker University and a BA in Journalism with a focus on PR & Advertising from the University of Arkansas.
