I’m Anthony. I’m a 39-year-old professional engineer turned author/speaker originally from New York who makes a living helping engineers be successful both professionally and personally. My friend and fellow content creator, Christian Knutson, PE, spent over two decades as a civil engineer field grade officer in the U.S. Air Force and has managed and mentored hundreds of engineers during that time.
We didn’t design the Empire State Building or the Golden Gate Bridge, but we both figured out how to become successful engineers very early on in our careers and now we have the honor of helping other engineers do the same.

My Story
I used to have a 9-to-5 job as a design engineer, which I really did enjoy. I was working as a civil engineer on residential and commercial development projects. I realized early in my career that to be successful as an engineer I needed to develop my non-technical or core skills, such as: communication and speaking abilities, networking and organizational skills, and leadership abilities.
After doing so, I was promoted to an associate in a reputable engineering firm at age 27. At that time, my employer recognized my unique skill sets and asked me to coach and train other engineers in the firm on developing these skills. This made me realize two things. First of all, MOST engineers need help with developing these core skills and secondly – I loved helping them.

When I met Christian Knutson, he had similar aspirations of helping engineers succeed in work and life, so we decided to partner up to bring even more value to engineers looking to succeed.
I am not promising you that if you read one of our blog articles or listen to one of our podcast episodes you will instantly become a partner in an engineering firm.
Being a successful engineer takes time and a lot of hard work, but if you are willing to do the work – we have an unlimited amount of resources on this site and in our private community that can help you.

Betty Arellano, Community Manager and Event Coordinator
Betty Arellano is an engineer who coordinates most of the day-to-day activities for Engineering Management Institute offerings including the oversight of The Engineering Mastermind.
Arellano graduated from De La Salle University Philippines with a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering. She received her Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines (UP). Her Masters’ thesis was about studying different carrier materials for upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor. During this time, she had a chance to work for a wastewater treatment firm in Iowa as a fellow student for 6 months. She and her other UP colleagues formed a consulting company to assist companies with their environmental compliance, permitting requirements and impact assessment. Shortly after, Betty was selected as one of the Philippine representatives for the Industrial Biotechnology and Technology Transfer in Germany, which lasted for 10 months. Betty moved to the United States in 2006, and joined our team in 2012.
Angelique Davel, Content Coordinator and Social Media Manager
One of the main reasons Engineering Management Institute’s content was ranked the best in the world for engineering career related content by a third party is because of Angelique Davel. Angelique manages the production, scheduling, and publication of all of our content which amounts to close to 200 pieces of content each year between articles, podcast episodes, and videos. And once we create it, she is also a master at sharing it online through our various social media channels.
Angelique is a hardworking professional that does whatever it takes to be successful, even if it means working long hours to ensure a job is completed. She has and will remain to be a critical component of the growth of Engineering Management Institute and our ability to reach and help engineers around the world.
