Here Are Some of the Questions I Asked Susana:

  • What makes fusion energy a promising source for the future, and how does it work?
  • How have your leadership experiences in both Europe and the U.S. shaped your approach to leading in the fusion energy field?
  • What strategies can help increase female representation in the fusion energy industry?
  • What challenges have you faced as a woman in fusion energy, and how did you overcome them?
  • What were the most impactful moments in your work on major projects like the National Ignition Facility and ITER?
  • Why is early engagement in STEM important for diversity in fusion energy, and what approaches have been effective?
  • What final piece of advice would you give to women considering a career in the fusion energy industry?

Here Are Some Key Points Discussed in This Episode About Fusion Energy Breakthrough That Will Empower Women In Engineering:

  • Fusion energy replicates the process that powers the sun, combining light atoms to generate vast amounts of clean and safe energy. With no carbon emissions, abundant fuel sources, and strong safety advantages, it provides a sustainable solution for the future of energy production.
  • Hands-on experience in large-scale fusion projects helps engineers gain expertise that leads to leadership opportunities. Expanding into project management strengthens problem-solving and organizational skills, creating a well-rounded foundation for advancing fusion energy.
  • Addressing unconscious bias in hiring, improving workplace culture, and prioritizing retention are key strategies for increasing female representation. Leadership must take deliberate steps to create environments where female engineers can thrive and advance in their careers.
  • Building a strong professional network is essential for overcoming challenges and maintaining confidence in the face of adversity. With growing awareness and stronger policies against gender-based harassment, more support systems are available to ensure fair treatment and career growth for women in STEM.
  • Recognition and career development opportunities play a crucial role in professional growth, especially for women in STEM. A supportive workplace culture and proactive leadership make a significant difference in career advancement and job satisfaction.
  • Encouraging young girls to explore STEM through hands-on experiences and mentorship builds confidence and interest in engineering careers. Consistent efforts in outreach programs, school events, and industry conferences help increase diversity and representation in the field.
  • Women interested in fusion energy should seek networking opportunities, mentorship, and industry exposure through conferences and professional communities. With expanding opportunities in both the private and public sectors, now is an ideal time to build a career in fusion energy.
