Let’s jump into today’s topic, Driving Value as an Engineer, which is based on a question from Tomasz, a recent graduate, who asks the following:
Q: I need your advice. How do I stand out in an engineering company? I’d like to be more recognized amongst co-workers and my superiors despite my engineering work being essential, it’s not that impressive. Like the work of the sales reps that generate instant revenue. The problem is I don’t know how to stand out without kissing up to somebody.
A: The full answer can be seen in the video above, but here are a few of the main points:
- As an engineer, you MUST drive value in your career because that’s what’s going to make you successful.
- Have a conversation with your supervisor and ask what you can do to bring value to your engineering company.
- Engage in tasks that will drive value to your engineering company.
